Before the Music Dies

Audio has long been a playground for ethically questionable practices. Ever since the advent of recorded sound, technicians have tinkered with what audiences want to hear. However, the old-fashioned introduction of sound-effects and ambient aural flourishes pale in comparison to what audio-engineers can achieve these days. With a handful of fairly common digital resources (Audacity, for example) and a little know-how, sound-editors can take recordings of talentless, tone-deaf performers and create catchy tunes ready for mass consumption. The irony is that, talented, hard-working performers with real ability get pushed aside and forgotten as listeners chase after phony performers.
